The City of Tampa Mayor’s Alliance for Persons with Disabilities is pleased to invite you to the 28th annual Awards Luncheon on October 28, 2016. Last year there were over 200 attendees and a larger turnout is expected this year. Mayor Bob Buckhorn will present the Joe Sanchez Leadership Award, the Employer of the Year Award, the Excellence in Media Award and the Outstanding Community Service/Volunteer Award. Jack Harris will be the emcee.

The keynote speaker this year is Warrant Officer Romy Camargo, a retired veteran who dedicated over 20 years to the U.S. Army. After holding several positions related to communications, Camargo was appointed to the rank of Warrant Officer One in 2006. While on a combat operation in 2008, Camargo’s detachment was viciously ambushed and he sustained a gunshot wound to the back of the neck. He was later paralyzed from the shoulders down.
Chief Camargo has now retired to Tampa, Florida, where he and his wife have opened Stay In Step Spinal Cord Injury Recovery Center, which is the first Wounded Warrior owned Recovery Center in the United States. The organization is dedicated to helping veterans and civilians who are suffering from spinal cord injuries.
