Florida Sands Conference in Orlando at the Florida hotel this weekend January 6-8.

The Florida Sands Conference in Orlando was held at the Florida hotel the weekend of January 6-8.

All self-advocates in Florida were invited to attend the conference, regardless of their affiliation with FL SAND.

FL SAND’s conference included an exciting and educational slate of programs and activities, including dinner out and dancing on Saturday. Sessions included training in fundraising, pursuing community leadership opportunities, the nuts and bolts of running a local self-advocacy group, and more.

This year’s theme “Speakin’ Up & Movin’ Out” represented the organization’s goal of greater influence at the state and grassroots level. FL SAND (Florida Self-Advocates Network’D) is a statewide organization that exists to support local advocacy efforts and provide a united voice for statewide issues and topics that are important to self-advocates and all persons with disabilities in Florida.

FL SAND’s 15 local groups are all led by self-advocates and operate independently of provider organizations. Find out more at http://www.flsand.org/.
