Please come out and learn a lot.
In the second half of our meeting we will be learning about the Employment First Florida Peer-to-Peer Curriculum.
Who created the curriculum?
The Employment First Florida Peer-to-Peer curriculum was created by people at the Institute for Community Inclusion in Boston and self-advocates in Florida. It was created as part of the EmployMe 1st Florida Project. The EmployMe1st Florida Project is a project of the Florida Developmental Disabilities Council.
Why the curriculum was created?
The Employment First Florida Peer-to-Peer curriculum is for individuals with disabilities. People who use the toolkit will be better prepared to work with their service coordinators, employment support staff, state agencies, and their families to get a job.
What people will learn about if they use the curriculum?
The goal of the curriculum is to help people begin to explore their strengths and support needs, identify their goals, and learn about how other people have been successful in jobs in the community. It is organized by subject. The subjects are:
- Reasons why people work
- How to advocate for yourself about employment
- Tips for disclosing your disability
- Transportation
- Success stories.
